If your draw the aggro correctly and bunch the mob up, as you should, stand on the side where your team-mates are facing, so when they begin to nuke, they will not be on the edge of the aggro circle, and the aggro will not brake.
Having the Ss (if your doing 5-8man fow) bring sv/av makes it easier to deal with the Shadow Army and Abyassal's, but when vsing undead just make sure you survive and group them if you can. When in the spider cave, just trigger the pop-ups and try and tank the damage, but in the caves there is not much you can do. Hope it helps. |

FoW doesn't require any tanking. Doing some proper tanking down there will only slow down your run. The damage output there is really not that high. Just get a monk that knows how to use prot spirit and you are done

Something like this should do: http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:W/E_Obsidian_Tank
You are only there to get aggro and survive (alot of tanks in fow forget this). Don't fight. Try to ball em up nicely outside the aggro range of your team and let the nukers do their work. Never walk back towards your team while aggroing. I've seen so many warriors do this, I wonder why? You should also think about lining up casters. Agrro them, walk a bit away from them so they all nicely together and then go stand next to them. The melee should follow you so you have all enemies together. You know... In the Me/D build + bonder from DopeFish's thread I could tank 3 elementalists, necro, mesmer, two monks and a warrior. So I think that a good team that won't fail will be okay without a tank. You dont even need prot spirit...

Tbh there is no need to tank anywhere really, especially in FoW.

So, to sum up what people are saying:
Unless you are moving back toward your group, you should be able to maintain agro if you stay in one place. Agro usually breaks because some of the rest of the team gets too close. Often this is a healer who is trying to heal you, which is why you want to use a bonder type healer that heals you without needing to get withing agro range. (Especially if you are surrounded on all sides by enemies, a healer can't get within healing range of you, without agroing something closer.) I know that many people do set up groups to use the tank/nuke method of attack. And it does work (albeit, slowly) if agro isn't broken. I would agree, though, that tanking isn't necessary in FoW (or anywhere, most likely), but if that's what you're doing - enjoy! |

Tanks in FoW slow you down considerably. I recommend bringing a dps warrior along with ele, necros, mesmer, monk, etc (no bonder, that also slows you down in FoW) and you can clear the place in under two hours.

Tanking is worthless in every place accept for DoA. Every place it is a waste of a slot. A good prot monk (hard to find in a PuG) can migate damage just as much as a tank. UW is more acceptable with the aataxes, but a good flashbot should make short work of them.
